Community, Connection, and Belonging in Gay Men’s Group Travel
Whether you are coming alone, with a partner, or with a group of friends, our group travel experiences are intentionally designed to foster genuine community among gay men—through authenticity, shared intention, and a meaningful sense of journey.
This is envisioned as a space where no one is invisible or outside the clique. Everyone is welcomed. Everyone is seen. Everyone belongs. This design reflects the core values that guide CAKO.
Before we board the plane, we plan to connect through a virtual gathering to make introductions, answer questions, discuss important details, and set intentions for our time together. This gathering is scheduled for the Sunday before departure, allowing connection to begin even before we arrive.
Once in country and checked into our resort, we will begin community building with an in-person meet-up designed to help everyone settle in and feel connected from the start. We will greet one another, share introductions in person, and hold our first group “check-in”—a brief opportunity to express what we are experiencing and feeling. We will also review orientation and logistics so everyone feels informed, grounded, and at ease.
Each day, we plan to hold a short group check-in to reflect on shared experiences and deepen connection. Mid-week, we have arranged a conversation with gay men from Rio about navigating gay life in Brazil, offering cultural insight, shared perspective, and cross-cultural understanding as part of our Rio group experience.
We will offer a guided, optional, and fully consensual group sensual massage experience in groups of three, designed to foster connection to both self and partners within a supportive community setting.
By intentionally setting aside the goal of sexual release, the focus is on conscious, respectful touch. This experience is designed to encourage presence, trust, mutual respect, and increased awareness of the body’s capacity for sensual and sexual pleasure—while honoring clear boundaries and consent at every step.
This experience is intended to create a safe, intentional space for participants to explore connection through touch within a framework of respect and shared humanity.
One evening is planned as a different kind of journey—a guided exploration of our inner lives to better understand our past, present, and future. David Matheson will lead an engaging and reflective exploration of the Hero’s Journey, designed to be both accessible and illuminating. This approach reflects the broader philosophy described on our About page.
Developed by mythologist Joseph Campbell, the Hero’s Journey is a universal narrative framework that maps the arc of transformation found in great stories—from Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter and countless other timeless films and books. Through this lens, participants are invited to reflect on their own lives and the journeys that shape them.
