Rio de Janeiro comes alive after dark.

Evenings during our journey offer a chance to relax together and experience another side of the city’s culture.

From legendary dance clubs to live samba and intimate neighborhood venues, Rio’s LGBTQ+ nightlife is vibrant, expressive, and full of personality.

Our evenings out aren’t about rushing from place to place, but about enjoying the atmosphere together — meeting locals, sharing music and laughter while experiencing Rio’s nightlife as part of a meaningful small-group journey.

Below are a few of the evening outings planned during our journey. As with all travel, plans may evolve if new opportunities arise.

One of Rio de Janeiro’s most iconic gay clubs, The Home in Copacabana is known for its dramatic lighting, multi-level dance floor, and high-energy atmosphere. Popular with both locals and visitors, it represents one of the most vibrant sides of Rio’s LGBTQ+ nightlife.

For participants who enjoy dancing, it’s an opportunity to step directly into the rhythm of the city and experience one of its legendary nightlife spaces. Others may prefer to take in the scene from the upper balconies, where the view of the crowd below offers a different way to appreciate the energy of the night.

However participants choose to experience it, an evening at The Home offers a vivid glimpse into the scale, creativity, and expressive freedom that are part of Rio’s queer nightlife.

For something uniquely Brazilian, we’ll experience Roda Sambay, a queer-centered take on one of Brazil’s most beloved traditions: the roda de samba.

Hosted at Terrasse Rio, this lively gathering blends live percussion, joyful singing, and charismatic performers into an atmosphere that feels both celebratory and deeply rooted in Brazilian culture. As the music builds, the energy of the room naturally draws people into the rhythm.

More than simply a night out, Roda Sambay offers participants a chance to experience Rio’s culture through music, movement, and shared celebration — a joyful expression of the city’s creativity and spirit.

A longtime favorite in Ipanema, Galeria Café Club offers a more intimate side of Rio’s LGBTQ+ nightlife. Known for its stylish interior and welcoming crowd, the venue blends lounge space, bar, and dance floor in a setting that feels both relaxed and social.

Locals and travelers mix easily here, creating an atmosphere that feels friendly and approachable. Whether enjoying a drink, talking with new friends, or spending some time on the dance floor, evenings at Galeria Café reflect the warm, sociable spirit of Rio’s queer community.
